WNBA 2022 Season: Rules and Regulations
A Guide for Players, Coaches, and Fans
The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) has established a comprehensive set of rules and regulations to govern its games.
1. Attire
- Players must wear the official team uniforms provided by the WNBA.
- Uniforms must be clean, neat, and in good repair.
- Players must wear appropriate footwear for basketball.
2. Bench Conduct
- Players, coaches, and other team personnel must remain seated on the bench during the game.
- They may only leave the bench with the permission of the referee.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
3. Box Outs
- Players must establish a position to prevent opponents from rebounding the ball.
- Contact must be made with the opponent before the ball is released.
- Players may not hold, push, or otherwise obstruct the opponent.
4. Ejection
- Players, coaches, or other team personnel may be ejected from the game for unsportsmanlike conduct.
- Technical fouls, flagrant fouls, and fighting are all grounds for ejection.
- Ejected individuals must leave the playing area immediately.
5. Fines
- Players, coaches, or other team personnel may be fined for unsportsmanlike conduct.
- The amount of the fine is determined by the WNBA.
- Fines must be paid within a specified period.
6. Rule Interpretations
- Coaches may request a rule interpretation from a referee prior to the game.
- Rule interpretations are binding for the duration of the game.
- Rule interpretations may be subject to review by the WNBA league office.
